Today, we dispatched the first vessel to the ÖSWAG shipyard. Austrian engineers will carry out a major modernization of the self-propelled vessel, including engine replacement.
The vessel was prepared for the voyage over several months: the hull was fully cleaned and painted, the propeller-steering complex, pumps, mechanisms, and much more were restored.
After returning from Austria, the self-propelled vessel will immediately start working. Modern, economical engines and a control system will significantly reduce fuel and repair costs.
The team working on the project is in high spirits, though a bit nervous. We are starting the first modernization of a self-propelled vessel in the recent history of UDP. Being first is always challenging.
But we have very experienced partners. This series of riverboats was built at ÖSWAG 40 years ago. The ÖSWAG design office developed the project. ÖSWAG provides a warranty.
In preparing the “Captain Antipov,” we thoroughly inspected the vessel’s hull. The thicknesses now and at the time of construction are almost identical. With careful operation, the vessel can work for at least another 40 years.
Therefore, the investments in modernization are absolutely economically justified. Given the EU’s increasing environmental requirements for river transport, we essentially have no choice but to modernize.
