Green Deal

Reducing the negative effects on the environment caused by the company’s manufacturing activities is one of the priority areas of the UDP work.

The work is performed in several areas.

1. Since the company uses large amounts of fuel and lubricants in its operations, several measures are used in order to prevent any leakages of fuel and lubricants into the environments.

Moreover, all vessels leaving ports are provided with sorbing agent in order to reduce the risk of pollution of the Danube water.

We have established a system for collection of waste generated in the process of commercial activities of PJSC “UDP” and their transportation for disposal, which also reduces negative effects on the environment.

A system for monitoring of fuel consumption and engine operation has been implemented, which allows to reduce fuel consumption per ton of cargo by 15-20% and, therefore, minimize harmful gas emissions into the atmosphere.

2. In2022 a repair program was implemented in order to improve the technical condition of our fleet, as well as to minimize the risk of leakages of fuel and lubricants.

3. The fleet modernization program includes installation of more environmentally friendly engines on the ships, consistent not only with the current environmental requirements with respect to reduction of harmful gas emissions, but also with the requirements to be implemented by the EU in the future.

4. Waste management: a modernized site for disposal of flushing water, fuel and lubricants (with the possibility of further processing), consistent with the international environmental requirements, is being constructed at the fleet maintenance facility: vessels will be able to undergo maintenance and bunkering when arriving, leaving or undergoing repairs.

5. UDP actively comes forward in the Danube Commission with environmental initiatives related to fleet operation on the Danube.

In 2022 the lead engineer for environmental safety of UDP represented Ukraine in the expert team when the member states of the Danube Commission worked on the new version of the “Recommendations on the organization of collection of waste from vessels operated on the Danube”. His suggestions were accepted and approved by the representatives of other countries and were included in the final version of the Recommendations mandatory for use since January 1, 2023.

The said Recommendations have been implemented in our company.
