During the thirty years of independence, it somehow never occurred to anyone at the Danube Shipping Company to change the names of the ships from Russian to the STATE Ukrainian language.
We were the first to address this.
We got rid of names related to figures of the communist regime and Russian cities.
In renaming, we focused on Ukrainian cities that are related to river/marine transport and are under occupation.
Feodosia, Sevastopol, Henichesk, Mariupol – these are Ukraine! Ukrainians who remain in the occupied territories should know that we remember them and dream of the day when the yellow-blue flag will fly again over all of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Crimea, and Donbas.
The list of shipping company vessels that already carry new Ukrainian names:
- Tugs “Borys Makarov”, “Valeriy Kydyk” (“Zahorsk”), “Sevastopol” (“Zvenigorod”), “Odesa” (“Nykyfor Sholudenko”), “Ochakiv” (“Gagra”), “Poti”, “Henichesk” (“Ivanovo”), “Kremenchuk” (“Irkutsk”), “Linz” (“Astrakhan”), “Mariupol” (“Khabarovsk”), “Mykolaiv” (“Kuzma Galkin”), “Oleshky” (“Chelyabinsk”), “Feodosia” (“Orenburg”);
- Self-propelled vessels “Kostiantyn Bozhenko”, “Oleksiy Ivliev”, “Captain Haidai”, “Mykola Budnikov”, “Hryhoriy Morozov”, “Captain Antipov”, “Captain Shirkov”;
- Service-auxiliary vessel “Kiliysky” (“Moskovsky-2”);
- Marine cargo ship “Reni” (“Renyi”);
- Passenger ship “Tisa” (“Volga”).
The first vessels to receive new names were those undergoing repairs, as the process of obtaining new documents is lengthy.
It requires obtaining a commission’s conclusion from the Shipping Administration, preparing a package of documents for amendments to the Ukrainian State Ship Register, receiving a Certificate of Ownership for the vessel, and a Certificate of Entitlement to Sail under the Ukrainian State Flag.
Based on these certificates, classification documents from the Ukrainian Shipping Register, certificates for the minimum crew complement, etc., are obtained.
Currently, documents are being prepared for the renaming of the next batch of vessels!
